The Women's Institute is the largest voluntary women's organisation in the UK and currently has around 6,600 branches with 212,000 members. The Nottinghamshire Federation of WI’s was established in late 1917 and today there are 119 WI's and over 4,200 members. Our oldest WI's are Southwell and East Bridgford, which were formed in 1917 and are still thriving.
Sutton-on-Trent Women’s Institute was formed in 1950 by 3 members of the village - Alice Charlsworth, Biddy Chandler and Olive Moxon. From those early days we have grown into a group of 35 members. We celebrate our birthday in the February meeting each year with a party – a buffet meal followed by appropriate entertainment.
We have lots of fun & laughter at our monthly meetings and, along with ones organised by the Notts Federation we offer a variety of activities and talks with a mix of education and entertainment thrown in - you name it we do it! Everyone also receives a monthly Newsletter - The Hornblower - which keeps everyone informed.
If you are looking to make new friends or have recently moved into the village, we would love you to come and join us!
We meet 7.30 on the first Thursday of the month except August when we have our annual outing at the Methodist Community Centre, High Street, Sutton-on-Trent. Visitors pay £3.00 per visit.
Access is by the front door with a step up. The side door can be opened with a ramp if requested.
Subscriptions: Subscriptions to the WI are paid annually in January and are set by the National Federation. Subscription charges for the year 2019/20 are £42.00. Pro-rata rates apply to anyone joining through the year.
