History Society

HISTORY SOCIETY

The History Society was formed in 1968 by Gordon Ellis and ten other villagers.  Gordon was its chairman for 43 years through to 2011, followed by Val Harrop between 2012 & 2021 and Graham Goodwin King in 2021/2022.

From September through to April each year the Society meets monthly on the second Monday of each month in the Methodist Community Centre, High Street, Sutton-on-Trent at 7.30 p.m.  We have a variety of speakers presenting subjects of both local and regional interest, generally illustrated by slide or video.

Annual membership is currently £10.00 payable in advance in September.  Visitors are always welcome with an entrance fee of £2.00 per meeting.

In addition to our monthly indoor meetings, each year we arrange number of outings, both full-day to places in Derbyshire, West Midlands, Yorkshire etc. and half-day/evenings more locally to Newark, Nottingham, Lincoln etc.  Visits are to a variety of places including historical sites, museums, National Trust properties and gardens etc.
