WI Meetings
WI Meetings
Sutton-on-Trent WI meet on the first Thursday of each month at the Methodist Church Hall (behind the Methodist Church) on Main Street. The meetings start at 7.30pm and generally run for a couple of hours starting with a rendition of Jerusalem quickly followed by the monthly business which includes details of upcoming events organised by our own group and through the Nottinghamshire federation.
Next comes the main event of the evening, generally a talk, followed by tea / coffee and biscuits and time to chat with friends afterwards.
We don’t have a formal meeting in August as this is the time for our annual outing. In the past few years, we have visited Cosworth Hall near Doncaster, Renishaw Hall near Chesterfield and had a lovely cruise with lunch on board a canal boat from Whaley Bridge in Derbyshire.
Outside our monthly meetings our theatre group enjoy seeing productions at both the Robin Hood Theatre in Averham and the Palace Theatre on Newark.
Together with the WI's from Egmanton, East Markham and Laxton we form the River Group and meet twice a year - A Group Meeting with a speaker or other entertainment and refreshments, and in December we meet up for a Group Carol Service at one of the local churches.
Past group meetings have included a talk and cookery demonstration from the ‘Ladies in Pigs’, an entertaining by Jim Wright the son of the famous vet Donald Sinclair (known to everyone as James Herriott) .and a performance by the local U3A Ukulele band.
